The application fee is USD $50.00. It is payable by check or money order to The New School.

Q: Is the application process different for international students?

Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy welcomes international students. There are additional application guidelines and requirements for international applicants, including:

Phase I – Application Process

  • International applicants are encouraged to submit a complete application six months before their desired semester of entry begins. This is to accommodate student visa processing.
  • WES Evaluation of Foreign Transcripts: A comprehensive course-by-course grading equivalency translation provided by World Education Services must be submitted to the Office of Admissions for school transcripts from outside the United States of America.   The World Education Service evaluation is not required if you have an undergraduate or graduate degree from a U.S. college or university. Visit www.wes.org for more information.
  • TOEFL: If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate the ability to communicate in English by achieving a minimum score of 600 (paper exam) or 250 (computer exam) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A TOEFL score is required for all international students, with the following exceptions: TOEFL is not required if you are a citizen of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or South Africa and your native language is English. You are responsible for arranging to take this test. Visit http://www.ets.org/toefl/ for more information.
  • English Proficiency: If you are admitted to Milano as an international student, and it is determined that your written and oral English skills are inadequate for graduate-level work, you must register for English as a Second Language (ESL) at The New School or another institution. You must continue ESL studies until your program chairperson determines that you have made sufficient progress toward mastery. No graduate credit is granted for the ESL program, and the student is responsible for payment of any required fees.

Phase II – International Student Visa Processing
The New School’s International Student Services (ISS) works to assist international students after they are accepted to Milano by providing applications and information. Newly accepted international students should view International Student Instructions or contact the ISS office for more information:
