Film Production

For more than 40 years, The New School has offered workshops in the art and craft of filmmaking. Since then, audio, video and new, emergent, technologies have been integrated throughout the curriculum. Taught by working professionals and an experienced faculty, our courses offer students the opportunity to learn technical and aesthetic aspects of filmmaking, and to explore a wide range of cinematic practice including directing, cinematography, screenwriting, sound design, production design, acting, and digital video production.

Film, video and selected inter-media courses may be taken toward the Film Production Certificate, for undergraduate credit or on a non-credit basis. For information about degree programs, call the Admission Office, 212.229.5630.

In order to ensure the quality of each course, enrollment is strictly limited. If a desired course is filled, call the film program advisor at 212.229.5899 to inquire about additional classes that might still be open. Early registration is strongly advised.
