
Students in the Master of Arts in Media Studies program produce film and video projects, ranging from documentaries to experimental video, as part of their course work. At the end of each semester, a sample of the best student work is compiled and presented here.

The Annual New School Invitational Film Show

The 30th Annual invitational film show, the culmination of the Dorothy H. Hirshon Film Festival, is a gala screening of outstanding films made by New School students during the past year. The films were previewed and judged by a panel of industry professionals at open screenings in November and February. An awards ceremony and reception with the filmmakers and judges follows the screenings. Sponsors include: Kodak, Colorlab, DuArt, Hotlights, The Filmmakers Cooperative, N&D Films, AIVF, Resfest, Magno Lablink, and Final Draft.
The Hirshon Film Festival was established by a bequest from the late Dorothy Hirshon, a trustee of The New School for 61 years. The mission of the festival is to promote excellence and education in the filmmaking arts through screenings, lectures, and master classes with distinguished artists-in-residence.
