Daniela Merino, Media Studies, '09

Daniela was born in Quito, Ecuador. She earned a BA in Communication Studies and Art History at the University of San Francisco de Quito.

In 2003, she moved to New York City to study documentary photography at the International Center of Photography. Since then, she has exhibited her work in Quito, New York, the Philippines, and Italy.

Her passion for photography began at a young age, but it wasn’t until she graduated college that she pursued her true path as a professional photographer. After working for different magazines and teaching photography workshops, she decided to expand her visual knowledge specializing in media, with a focus on experimental video and film.

She considers the Media Studies program unique, and a pure expression of our postmodern reality: a compilation of different practices, in which each student is absolutely free to design either a form of study, which can be exploratory, structured, or a mixture of both.

Daniela is currently working on a series of video portraits on physical and psychic transformation of a young girl into a woman. She is also writing a script for her final independent project, a film production that will take place in New York in November 2009.
