John Culkin, a founding member of the program's faculty, regarded the new field of media studies as "the arts and humanities in a new key." He designed the master's degree program in Media Studies to serve media generalists—those who take a broad view of the media landscape and, in studying that terrain, experiment with multiple theoretical lenses and methods.
