Apply Early
Be sure to give yourself sufficient time to complete your application thoughtfully and thoroughly and still meet the deadline. (Remember our deadlines are the “Received By” date and not the “Postmarked By” date). Late applications will be reviewed after those received before the deadlines. International applicants should apply early to allow enough time to complete the visa application process, which is separate from the admission application process.
Request Official Transcripts Promptly
Ordering transcripts can take time, especially over the summer or during school holiday periods. If you attended college many years ago, or under a different name, your school may take longer to locate your credentials. Please factor any potential delays into your plans. Do not assume your most recent transcript will suffice. The Office of Admission requires that you submit an official transcript from every school you attended–even if you took only one course or received a failing grade.
Identify All Materials Clearly
Clearly print the information on your application to help us avoid data entry errors. Please call attention to variations in your name that might appear on college transcripts. The full name that you use on your application should also appear your fee check as well as on all essays and résumés.
Update Us
Staff at The New School need to communicate with you throughout the application process. If you move, please update the address and phone numbers that are on file. Also if your email address changes, please notify the Office of Admission because email is often used to inform you about your application status (missing credentials, available appointment times, etc.).
Make Copies
Keep copies of your application form and all other documents you send to the Office of Admission. All material submitted becomes the property of The New School and cannot be returned to you or released to a third party on your behalf.
Keep Track
You are the only person who can guarantee the timely processing of your application. If the admission staff has informed you about missing credentials (reference forms or official transcripts), you will need to follow up on the status yourself. Keep in mind other schools might have "downtime," particularly in the summer, holidays, or during their graduation period, which can effect the time it takes to process transcripts or for faculty members to write recommendations.
