Nina Raja, Media Studies, 09
Nina Raja is a masters student at The New School studying Media Studies with a concentration in Digital Production. For her undergraduate study at Rutgers University, Nina majored in Journalism with a minor in political science and women's studies.
Nina's experiences in production began as an undergraduate Women's Leadership scholar. While writing her honors thesis on the impact of minority media representation on American society, she held a rigorous internship at MTV World; she had the opportunity to attend shoots with pop stars, participate in executive meetings with the Senior Vice President, pitch ideas for programming, and lead marketing projects.
With her thesis fueling her passion to make a meaningful contribution to diversity initiatives within the television industry, she continued her research as a graduate student and commenced her journey as an intern at NBC. When she became a player on the Channel One team, she quickly applied knowledge from the classroom as she shot b-roll, pitched stories, researched the impossible, coordinated shoots and participated in every phase of the production process—from inception to completion.
Currently Nina is a teaching assistant for two classes in the Media Studies Program and has been chosen to travel to Brazil for a field program with The New School’s graduate program in International Affairs this summer.
