Laura Thies,
Laura Thies was born and raised in a tiny village in the south Germany, where she developed her passion for the theater. At the age of 16 she left for a one-year exchange program in Canada in order to learn English and French. Loving her life away from home and sensing new opportunities she stayed and finished high school abroad.
At the age of 18 a dream came true when she was accepted to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. After graduating from AMDA Laura enrolled at the New School, where she found her love for film and video making, and the opportunity to have her own voice heard. At The New School, she earned a BFA in Musical Theater, a Certificate in Screen Writing, a Certificate in 16mm Film Production, and an MA in Media Studies. Currently she is also completing an MA in International Affairs and hopes to graduate in May 2009.
Amongst the many media works she has produced at the New School, Laura is proudest of her latest, her thesis project, a short 16mm fiction film entitled "Angle of Vision", a story about humanity that is very dear to her heart. Over the course of three years, she succeeded in writing and re-writing the film to represent her vision and finally translating it onto the screen.
Laura came to the New School as a girl whose dream it was to be on stage. Still being active in the world of theater, having worked on countless film productions and now understanding much more about the many ways the world turns, she is excited to leave school and go on to do bigger and better things.
