Summer Intensive Program

Students who would like to experience traditional face to face classes can take one, two, three or four classes (up to 12 credits) on site in New York City during the eight week summer program. With this option, students can expedite their studies, enjoy the vibrance of NYC and experience a traditional, face-to-face classroom. For non-native speakers of English, this is an opportunity to be completely immersed in English for up to eight weeks.

Courses:

  • Methods and Materials for Teaching ESOL: Systems
  • Methods and Materials for Teaching ESOL: Skills
  • Language Analysis for Teachers (Phonology, Lexis and Syntax)
  • Language Analysis for Teachers (Grammar and Discourse)

Important Dates: Orientations are held at the beginning of each month. This year: June 22nd and July 20th  Classes begin June 23rd and end August 13th.

The summer intensive curriculum includes seminars, guest speakers, field trips, and workshops. While it is a very busy time, there is some time for a Broadway play, a concert in Central Park, a jazz club, a mellow coffee at a sidewalk cafe, or an exploration of New York's famous landmarks or the many ethnic neighborhoods so vital to New York City's character.

Housing

Affordable housing is available in university residence halls. Students must apply separately for university housing.  Email summerhousing@newschool.edu and identify yourself as a New School MATESOL summer intensive student.
