Beverley Burkett has been a language teacher educator for more than 23 years. Since 1999 she has been engaged in research, teaching, and curriculum developmentthat have focused on teaching and learning in bi- and multilingual contexts and the development of isiXhosa in educational contexts. She has taught in the schooland university systems in South Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom; has undertaken post- graduate research supervision; and was a Fulbrightscholar. She was head of a Language in Education Unit at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University for more than 20 years and is co-author of a textbook seriesfor grades 1-9.
