The New School Chorus

The New School Chorus

About the Chorus

The New School Chorus is an exciting ensemble open to the entire New School community and all our neighbors and friends. It is an opportunity to participate in joyful communal singing that explores music and choral styles from all over the world, including choral masterpieces, folk singing and traditional music from many cultures, classic American jazz and popular songs. The rehearsal experience is about integrating words and music (learned by ear) with a fun and educational approach to the complex sonic possibilities of the human voice. The chorus is engaged with the university and the New York City community throughout the year through public performances and other opportunities for outreach.

It is led by two members of the groundbreaking vocal octet, Roomful of Teeth: conductor, vocalist, pianist, and composer Eric Dudley, and violinist, vocalist, and composer Caroline Shaw, who won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in Music for her Partita for 8 Voices, written for Roomful of Teeth).

In the spring 2014 semester, the New School Chorus meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:45-8:30 p.m. beginning January 28. See the complete rehearsal and performance schedule below.
