Parnas/Serkin Trio - New York Debut

The world-renowned pianist Peter Serkin made his New York debut at The New School in 1959 at age 12. He returns to the Tishman Auditorium stage with gifted teenage artists Madalyn and Cicely Parnas, who, at ages 16 and 18 respectively, have been hailed in the New York Times for their “lush tones” and “pinpoint precision.”
 
The Parnas/Serkin Trio will perform piano trios by Brahms, Schubert, and Bridge.

Founded in 1994, the Zemlinsky Quartet has continued the deep Czech string quartet tradition. The ensemble received top prizes in the 2007 Banff International String Quartet competition, the 2005 Prague Spring International Music Competition and the 2006 London International String Quartet Competition.

One of the most exciting chamber ensembles currently emerging on the concert scene, the Tessera Quartet has already created an energetic presence, captivating audiences with its glowing sound and bold interpretations. A compelling mosaic of four accomplished young soloists, the Tessera Quartet was formed under the guidance of the renowned Juilliard String Quartet in 2007. Highlights of its current season include recital appearances with the legendary pianist Claude Frank, as well as multiple performances of Lowell Liebermann's Piano Quintet with the composer at the piano.

Winners of the Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York, the Kuhmo International Chamber Music Competition and major prizes at the Bordeaux, London and Osaka competitions, the Anglo-Irish Carducci String Quartet has established an enthusiastic international following. Based in the UK, the quartet holds residencies at Trinity College of Music in London, Cardiff University and at the Cork School of Music in Ireland. The 2009-2010 season will see the quartet perform over 90 concerts worldwide, including performances throughout the U.K., in Spain, Portugal, Denmark, and France. In 2009 the quartet will also embark on debut tours of South America and Australia as well as engagements in North America including New York, Philadelphia, Santa Rosa, Los Angeles and Eureka.

Founded in Vancouver, British Columbia in the fall of 2000 and rapidly establishing a stellar reputation, the Borealis String Quartet created a national sensation as the only classical ensemble televised on the Great Canadian Music Dream Competition hosted by the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). Consequently, they were invited to perform for the prime minister of Canada at the Canada Day Celebrations on Parliament Hill in front of an audience of over 75,000. For its New York debut, the Borealis Quartet performed in the Schneider Concerts series.

The all-Canadian Afiara String Quartet is the recently announced Juilliard Graduate String Quartet-in-Residence. In 2008, the Afiara Quartet won the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in New York, following a top prize at the Munich ARD International Music Competition in the same year. The quartet is the only Canadian ensemble to win top honors in either of these historic competitions. The San Francisco Classical Voice calls the Afiara Quartet "a terrifically unified, versatile, and moving ensemble" with "startling intensity" and a "powerful, keen-edged collective sound."
