Audition Repertoire

Strings, Winds, and Brass Audition Repertoire

Please prepare the following music for your live audition. Live auditions are approximately eight minutes long and unaccompanied.

Prepare seriously for your audition. Very often, the deciding factor between two players of equal merit comes down to which applicant prepared the repertoire excerpts as meticulously as the solo works of the applicant's choice.

We strongly recommend that you become familiar with the complete instrumental part for each work from which excerpts have been assigned. In some cases, the music is in the public domain, but if not, it is worth a visit to the library or the expense to purchase a part in order to be well prepared.

(Thanks to Lucks Music for making these excerpts available to the 2012 New York String Orchestra Seminar applicants.)

Your private teacher should be a valuable resource. Be sure to ask for his or her assistance as you prepare.
