Common Enrollment and Registration Questions

Q: Whom do I see about major teacher assignments? (requests, questions, concerns)

Q: Wheredo I get an ID card?
A:  If you are a new student, you should have received an email over the summer from Campus Card Services asking you to submit a photo of yourself via email (newcard@newschool.edu). You need to do this before the deadline (usually a couple of months before the start of the semester). If you submitted your photo before the deadline, your card will be waiting for you in the Mannes Dean’s Office when you arrive. Please make sure you bring a valid photo ID when you come to collect your ID card.
If you did not submit a photo before the deadline, you need to go to the Campus Card Services office (call 212.229.5323 x4472 for hours).
If your card has been lost or stolen, you need to visit the Campus Card Services office (call 212.229.5323 x4472 for hours). There is a $25 fee for a replacement card.

Q: Whom do I see about getting a locker?
A: At the beginning of the school year, a lottery is held to assign student lockers. You can only enter the lottery if all outstanding charges on your account have been paid. Once you have paid all outstanding charges on youraccount, you should get a locker lottery card from the Mannes Student Financial Services Office during the first week of school and return it to Heather Campanelli in the Dean's Office (campaneh@newschool.edu or 212.580.0210x4801). Check with the Dean’s Office for the deadline. Locker assignments will be posted the following week. You are responsible for claiming your locker by placing a lock on it.

Q: Where is my mailbox at Mannes?
A: Due to space limitations, students do not have their own mailboxes. However, if you need to give something to someone else, you can use our “Drop Box” system. The drop boxes are located on the 5th floor. Instructions on how to use them are posted on the wall above the boxes.

Q: Whom do I contact about housing?
A: Call the University Housing Office at 212.229.5459.

Q: Whom do I contact about health issues and immunization?
A: Call Student Health Services at 212.229.1671.

Q: Whom do I contact about financial aid?
A:  Contact the Mannes Student Financial Services Office at 212.580.0210 x4809 or call The New School Student Financial Services at 212.229.8930.

Q: How do I register for classes?
A: Register for classes with your academic advisor. If you are an undergraduate or 1st year PDPL student, your advisor is Assistant Dean Audrey Axinn (axinna@newschool.edu or 212.580.0210 x4836). If you are a MM or 2nd year PDPL student, your advisoris Marilyn Groves (grovesm@newschool.edu or 212.580.0210x4832). To make an appointment, look for sign-up sheets outside the respective advisor’s office approximately one week before registration begins.

Q: How do I get an email account?
A: All registered students have a New School email account that they must use. Your user name and password will be mailed to you before classes begin. If you have any problems, please contact the University Help Desk at 212.229.5300x2828.

Q:Where do I sign up for opera auditions?
A:  Each September during the first week of school, information about how to sign up for an audition time will be posted on the opera bulletin board (outside the Dean's Office).

Q:Where do I sign up for orchestra auditions?
A: In approximately mid-August, an email will be sent to your New School account with your assigned audition time. You can also see these times on the orchestra bulletin board (across from the Dean's Office). Find more details about orchestra auditions in the Mannes summer email, which will you will receive in July.

Q:Whom do I contact about chamber music assignments (requests, questions,concerns)?

Q:What should I do if there is a problem with a piano at Mannes?
A: Log a call online at the Student Help Desk by double-clicking on the “question mark” icon, which can be found on any Mannes computer desktop. You can also email mannespianotech@newschool.edu.

Q:How do I get free tickets to non-Mannes events or discount tickets to movies and the theater?
A: Check the events bulletin boards opposite the Concert Office. You should also sign up to receive emails from the Office of Student Development and Activities (studev@newschool.edu), which sends out weekly information about how to get free and discounted tickets for many events, including sports, movies, and theater.

A: Log on to my.newschool.edu. You can check your grades atthe end of each semester.

Q:Where can I find out jury requirements?
A: Jury requirements are posted on the Dean's Office, voice, and orchestrabulletin boards.

Q:How do I find out my jury schedule?
A: Juries are scheduled automatically and times are posted two weeks in advance on the Office of Records and Registration bulletin board outside room 113. The jury schedule cannot be altered.

Q:How will I see my jury comments?
A: Copies of jury comments will be distributed to students following jury week.The specific dates will be posted.

Q:How do I sign out a practice room at Mannes?
A: For an explanation, obtain a copy of the brochure “Room Scheduling Procedures for Students” available from the Office of Records and Registration, room 113.

Q:How do I sign out a practice room at the Practice Center?
A: Call John Goldmark Practice Center at 212.712.1998 or use the Goldmark Practice Center Request Line, which is located at 150 West 85th Street (main building),1st floor next to the watercooler. The Practice Center is located at 37 West 65th Street. A: To request an official copy of their academic transcripts, students must submit an official request to the Office of the Registrar at The New School. Instructions are located on the University Registrar's Web page.
