In her homeland of Korea, AMY KIM was acclaimed "a new, young talent." Ms. Kim won first prize in every competition she entered including the prestigious Dong-A Music Competition and enjoyed an active career performing with all the major orchestras while still in her teens.
Ms. Kim has given solo recitals worldwide. She has performed to rave reviews in Europe at the Schumann Haus, the Franz Liszt Hochschule, the Salzburg Mozarteum, and Schloss Elmau, where she has been invited to reappear. She has appeared in joint recital with pianist Jacob Lateiner in Slovenia. American audiences have heard her perform with the Little Orchestra Society at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, at the Killington Music Festival in Vermont and as soloist with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra. She has given recitals in Iowa under the auspices of the Des Moines Women's Club, and in Chicago on the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, a live syndicated radio broadcast. Ms. Kim has appeared with various chamber music ensembles at Lincoln Center in New York City. The Sun Post said of her performance of the Lalo Concerto in Miami, "Ms. Kim proved to be an artist of sensibility. Her playing delighted the audience."
During her career, Ms. Kim has developed a varied and impressive repertoire. One of her most impressive characteristics is her uncanny ability to interpret all musical styles from Bach to Webern. She has mastered all the major cello concertos, sonatas, and chamber music repertoire, and her virtuosity and expressiveness are unparalleled.
In addition to solo performances, Ms. Kim is a dedicated teacher and believes it is a great privilege to "train and inspire the next generation of professional cellists." She is currently on the faculty of the extension and the preparatory divisions of the Mannes College The New School for Music in Manhattan.
Amy Kim is a graduate of the Juilliard School where she studied with Channing Robbins and Harvey Shapiro. Ms. Kim is playing on a Lorenzo Ventapane cello made in the 18th century.
