Michael Burgio

Principle second clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic for 40 years. Performed with musical and associate directors: Leonard Bernstein, William Steinberg, Pierre Boulez, George Szell, Zubin Mehta and Kurt Masur. Performed with New York Philharmonic Chamber Ensembles. Prior to Philharmonic, played with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra, and St. Louis Municipal Opera. Recorded for Teledec, Deutsche Grammophon, Columbia Records, RCA and CBS Masterworks. Studied clarinet with Henry Christmann, Simeon Bellison, Daniel Bonade, and Robert McGinnis. Attended Contemporary School of Music under the directorship of Stephen Wolpe and Ralph Shapey. Clarinet studies with Leon Russianoff.
