Mary BartoFlute; Chamber Ensemble
Profile:Mary Barto was the 2001 recipient of the Distinguished
University Teaching Award from Mannes College The New School for Music.
Formerly the Second Flute of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, she has
performed with the New York Philharmonic, the New York City Opera, New York
City Ballet and the American Ballet Theater at Lincoln Center. She has toured
Western Europe with her harpsichordist and across the United States as soloist
for the legendary Skitch Henderson, founder of the New York Pops. She is a
member of the New York Five, exclusively performing music composed by their
pianist, George Quincy. She is the flutist for the New York Composers Circle,
dedicated to the performance of contemporary composers. She is the Director of
the Mannes Extension Division Flute Ensemble and has been soloist with the
Extension Orchestra. In a recital for Music Under Construction in 2005, she
performed a complete concert of compositions written by Mannes faculty
composers. She has played on numerous film scores and records for Albany
Records.
