Profile:Glenn
Morton is a vocal coach and teacher of Italian diction at Mannes College The
New School for Music and Manhattan School of Music. He also teaches Song
Interpretation at Mannes, focusing on French mélodie and German lieder.
For
over 25 years he has worked with opera companies throughout the United States
as an assistant conductor, program director and diction coach in French and
Italian. These include Santa Fe Opera, Opera Company of Boston, Opera Delaware,
Sarasota Opera, Tulsa Opera and New Orleans Opera. As a pianist, he
collaborated on two recordings for Opus Records: Massenet Song Cycles and
Dvorak Song Cycles.
He
received his formal training at the Hartt School of Music in Piano Performance,
and Manhattan School of Music in Collaborative Piano. Most recently he served
as the Italian diction coach for the Manhattan of School Music Opera Theater,
Opera Lyra, Ottawa, and Glimmerglass Opera.
In
2009 he established La Lingua della Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy, where he
serves as the Artistic Director. He is the co-Artistic Director of L’Art du
Chant Français along with Stéphane Sénéchal in the Périgord region of France.
He is also the president of Classic Lyric Arts, a non-profit corporation
supporting young singers and pianists pursuing international studies in vocal
music.
