Mark Gibbel became The New School’s chief development officer in August 2014. In this position, he oversees strategic fundraising management, major gifts, alumni relations, corporate and foundation relations, annual and planned giving, board relations, and development information systems. Before coming to The New School, Gibbel served as vice president for College Advancement at Baruch College. There he led a $150 million fundraising campaign, an achievement the Council on Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) recognized in 2013 and 2014 with awards for superior overall fundraising performance for a comprehensive public college. Gibbel also held senior advancement positions at New York University and led a campaign to raise $450 million for NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Gibbel has lectured and taught on a variety of fundraising topics at NYU’s Center for Philanthropy, at its School of Professional and Continuing Studies, and at national and international conferences. He holds a master’s degree in American studies from NYU and an undergraduate degree from Goshen College.
