The Parsons Scholars Program is a three-year college preparation program for New York City public high school students interested in art and design. Students can apply to become Parsons Scholars in the fall of their tenth-grade year. This program enables students to study design at the college level, to learn about art and design careers, and to acquire tools and knowledge that will help them gain admission to and achieve success in any college of art and design.
Since 1997, the Parsons Scholars Program has helped more than 216 motivated young people gain acceptance to such leading art and design colleges as Carnegie Mellon, Rhode Island School of Design, Syracuse University, and Parsons. This number is especially noteworthy because 75 percent of the program’s scholars are first-generation college bound students. In addition, the curriculum has gained recognition as an effective model for other pre-college mentoring initiatives.
