This page outlines requirements for the degree in Theater (BA, Theater). Students can also study this subject as a minor or as part of a self-designed major (BA or BS, Liberal Arts). Students majoring in The Arts who are interested in studying theater should choose the Arts in Context
concentration and combine a structured set of dramatic arts courses with a liberal arts subject. For example, a student could combine theater studies with theater criticism and journalism courses offered through Literary Studies or Writing. Other areas of study, such as Psychology, Urban Studies, and Culture and Media, also offer Arts in Context options for students interested in theater.
Students in the Theater program at Eugene Lang College take part in seminar classes and develop their craft through innovative acting, directing, and playwriting work. They also take foundational courses in theater history, theory, and dramatic literature. The program emphasizes civic engagement and global perspectives on theater as well as media and performance. Theater students take courses with students in the Dance, Music, and Visual Studies concentrations.
The Theater major requires the following courses. See below total credits for distribution requirements.
