Our education studies students often say they want to make a difference in the world. Education is fundamental to the development of society—how we educate children determines the kind of adults they become. In the United States, public education is a pressing national issue. Education studies at Lang uses New York City schools as the laboratory to explore this issue. By studying the history, theory, policy, pedagogy, and practice of education, education studies students explore the current challenges of urban education and the complex issues and interactions affecting education, including class, gender, race, and public policy. Lang students work directly in schools to address literacy, dropout rates, college preparedness, and more. Through their studies and hands-on experience, students are prepared to effect real change in education.
