Graduation

Two ceremonies are scheduled for all degree candidates in May: the Lang Divisional Ceremony on May 22, 2014 and the New School Commencement on May 23, 2014.

On behalf of the deans, faculty, and administrators, we hope you attend both ceremonies to celebrate your accomplishments.

Graduation Petitions

In order to participate, you must petition to graduate with the registrar in the last semester of your degree program. Submit your petition to the university registrar at 72 Fifth Avenue (with any appropriate fees) by the deadlines indicated below:

January Graduates (petition deadline: November 15)

  1. Prior to October 1, no petition fees
  2. After October 1, a late petition fee of $20
  3. After November 1, a late petition fee of $50

May Graduates (petition deadline: March 30)

  1. Prior to February 15, no petition fees
  2. After February 15, a late petition fee of $20
  3. After March 15, a late petition fee of $50

Eugene Lang College Divisional Ceremony

May 22, 2014

In May, all students scheduled to graduate, as well as January 2014 graduates, are invited to a special recognition ceremony. The program includes remarks by the dean, a student and faculty speaker, academic and service awards, and individual recognition for each student. All eligible seniors and January 2014 graduates will receive detailed information about the ceremony by mail and email from Jemima Gedeon, senior class advisor, in March. Family and friends are welcome to attend this event.

Graduate Arrival Information
Both graduating seniors and faculty should assemble at the location no later than 10:00 a.m. The early arrival provides time for dressing, lineup and procession instructions, and photography. The ceremony should conclude by 12:30 p.m.

Guest Arrival Information
The doors open for guests at 10:30 a.m. Each guest must have a ticket.

Ticket Information
For the Lang divisional ceremony, each candidate should receive three guest tickets for general admission. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. No guests are permitted inside the sanctuary without a ticket. All candidates should provide tickets to their guests before the designated time for assembly.

Tickets are available beginning late April at the Lang Academic Advising Office (64 West 11th Street, ground floor.) Thereafter tickets may be picked up in the Lang Academic Advising Office (64 West 11th Street) Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until Wednesday, May 21. If you cannot come during the designated hours, please provide your representative with a signed letter authorizing the distribution of your tickets. The representative must also present a photo ID.

The New School Commencement

The New School Commencement is the university-wide ceremony for all New School graduates and their guests. It includes a keynote address, student speakers and performance, honorary degree recipients, and group recognition for each division.
