Requirements for the Minor in Culture and Media

Undergraduate students from any division of the university who are not majoring in Liberal Arts can elect an academic minor in Culture and Media which requires five (5) courses, distributed as follows:

Choose Two (2) Introductory Core courses:

  • Introduction to Cultural Studies
  • Introduction to Media Studies
  • Introduction to Screen Studies

Three (3) additional LCST Culture and Media courses; at least two (2) must be 3000 level or higher.

The minimum grade for core courses is B. Receiving a grade lower than a B requires retaking the Core course if you want to continue with the major. A grade of D in a non-Core LCST class cannot be counted toward the major (although it can still count for overall credits). In addition, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is expected for all students intending to declare in Culture and Media. (Slightly lower GPAs can be accepted if the student receives an A in the Intro course connected to their track, or both Intro courses, if mixing and matching between tracks.)

Guided Area of Study

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts cannot elect an academic minor, but they may pursue a guided area of study in Culture and Media. Students interested in this option should consult with their advisor.
