Effective as of Fall 2011.
The bachelor of arts in Culture and Media is awarded for completion of a minimum of 12 courses in the major area of study and the Senior Seminar/Senior Work (13 courses total). You can download the Program Requirement Worksheet for Culture and Media to track your progress. Students majoring in a different program may be able to elect an academic minor in Culture and Media.

Major in Culture and Media
There are two ways to fulfill the requirements:
Option A
Two of three introductory core courses
- Introduction to Cultural Studies (Core)
- Introduction to Media Studies (Core)
- Introduction to Screen Studies (Core)
An Integrative course: Introductory Level: Media Toolkit, Screen Toolkit, or Culture Toolkit (choose one)
Three (3) elective courses in each of the three (3) tracks (Culture, Media, and Screen) with at least one at the 4000 level
Senior Work or Senior Seminar
Option B
Two of three introductory core courses
- Introduction to Cultural Studies (Core)
- Introduction to Media Studies (Core)
- Introduction to Screen Studies (Core)
An Integrative course: Introductory Level: Media Toolkit, Screen Toolkit, or Culture Toolkit (choose one)
One (1) additional core course in two (2) of the three (3) tracks
Seven (7) elective courses in the remaining track, at least one at the 4000-level
Senior Work or Senior Seminar
Requirements for the Minor in Culture and Media
Two Introductory core courses
- Introduction to Cultural Studies
- Introduction to Media Studies
- Introduction to Screen Studies
An Integrative course: Introductory Level: Media Toolkit, Screen Toolkit, or Culture Toolkit (choose one)
Three more Culture and Media courses taken in one of the three tracks; at least two must be 3000 level or higher
A student must receive a grade of C or higher in every course taken to meet the requirements for the major or minor in Culture and Media.
