The Institute for Urban Education (IUE) is part of a national movement that promotes university engagement with public high schools. The IUE prepares high schools students for the transition to college through innovative school-based programs, public programming at the university, and professional development for educators. The IUE also prepares college undergraduates for careers in urban education through fieldwork and coursework.
Currently the IUE:
- prepares high school students to make a successful transition to higher education by focusing on both academic and navigational skills.
- uses an inquiry-based approach to college readiness.
- addresses the academic, social, and cultural obstacles many high school students face when making this transition.
