How do I update my contact information?
To update your home or business address, phone number(s), or email address in our records, please use the online form, email us or call 212.229.5662 x3557. You only need to update your information once with the university. You don’t need to send the update to your specific school.
How can I get a copy of my transcript?
Alumni can obtain their formal transcript by contacting the registration office. Contact information is below. Please allow seven days for transcript requests if you graduated before 1983 and five days if you graduated after 1983.
If you graduated before 1992, please fill out a transcript request form.

If you graduated in 1992 or later, you can obtain a web version of your transcript and verify your degree and graduation year by logging into your ALVIN account. If you have never used ALVIN, all you need is your social security number and date of birth to access your account. If you have problems logging in, contact the Registration Office using the information listed above.
Does my library card permit me to use NYU’s Bobst Library?
No, the University Cards are only valid for The New School Libraries: Fogelman, Scherman, and Gimbel. They cannot be used at consortium libraries. NYU’s own alumni only get three visits to Bobst post-graduation.
The box office told me I need an “alumni card” to get tickets or gain access to a public program or lecture. How do I get one?
The “alumni card” is the same thing as the “library card” or “University card.” To obtain one, email us with your request and your preferred mailing address. You may also call 212.229.5662 x3557 to request that a card be mailed. You can also obtain one at 55 West 13th Street, 7th Floor. Please call to schedule a pick-up time to ensure the card is ready and someone will be available to meet you.
My friend got an alumni card but I didn’t. How come?
If you did not receive your alumni card this year, it most likely means the address we have on file is incorrect. Please update your contact information using the instructions above.
I graduated in 2011. When will I get my alumni card?
New graduates will receive their alumni card in September, after their degrees are conferred. (Alumni cards are only available for degreed alumni.)
My alumni card expires on September 30. When will I get a new one?
The new alumni cards are mailed in early September. You should receive your new card before September 30. If you don’t, contact the Office of Alumni Relations and we will send you one.

Can I take a class for free at The New School?
Unfortunately, alumni do not get a free or discounted class. The free class was an alumni benefit only available under the previous administration. All alumni must pay regular tuition for all classes. The New School does provide several opportunities for continued learning through its public programs, most of which are free for alumni. Can alumni access online library resources like academic journals?
No—for a good reason: Allowing alumni to access online journals for free would represent a violation of the contract The New School maintains with online publishers. When our library contracted with online publishers to make journals available via the Internet, it did so with the understanding that the online library resources would be available only to currently enrolled students, current teaching faculty, and currently employed staff. Extending access to other parties would therefore represent a clear breach of contract. We are not aware of an online publisher that would permit academic libraries to offer their resources at no charge to alumni. Should circumstances change, we will update our response to this query.
Can alumni use the wireless access on campus? If so, how?
Yes, alumni can use the wireless access available throughout the New School campus. To log into the wireless network, use the username and password from your alumni email account. If you do not have an alumni email account, email us with the subject “Email Account Request” and include your first and last name and year of graduation. Accounts can be created only for alumni who received a degree or credit certificate.
Does the university offer discount health insurance for alumni?
