Profile:LaTanya Hall’s versatility
in a variety of musical genres has allowed her to travel the world and work
with some of the music’s most celebrated artists, including Diana Ross, Bobby
McFerrin, The Dukes of September (Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald, Boz Skaggs),
Quincy Jones, Rob Thomas, Michael Feinstein, Patti Labelle, Harry Belafonte,
Steve Tyrell and Aretha Franklin. She is prominently featured on Bobby
McFerrin’s masterpiece 2010 release Vocabularies [Universal Music] and will
be joining him on his SpiritYouAll tour in Spring 2013. Hall is also an
accomplished solo performer, having garnered rave reviews for her first studio
album, It’s About Time [Bridge Records]. She performs around the world in
venues ranging from intimate jazz clubs to appearances with symphony
orchestras.
Hall is also an active educator, teaching clinics in Basel, Switzerland for the
Stimmen Festival, as well as teaching master classes on vocal performance and
the Great American Songbook for various institutions in the US. For the last
three years, she has been an adjunct professor at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Manhattan,
as well as at Five Towns College in Long Island. In addition, she is very closely involved
with the Great American Songbook Initiative, which fosters the preservation of
the music via America’s younger generation.
An
accomplished actress, Hall has lent her skills to numerous voice-over
projects, Broadway shows, movie and television appearances. TV shows include Blue Bloods (Sabine Winston), Law
& Order, 100 Centre Street, The Sopranos and Now and Again. Broadway
and theater appearances include Cotton
Club Parade with jazz master Wynton Marsalis, and the role of Deena in the
last national tour of Dreamgirls.
