Profile:Arun Luthra has been one of the premiere saxophonists and
composers on New York's jazz scene for well over a decade, as well as being an
exponent of the South Indian vocal percussion discipline of konnakol. He is one of the small group of American jazz
musicians of Indian heritage who has continued to explore to possibilities of
fusing the modern post-bop sound with elements of Indian classical music, as
well drawing from a wide variety of modern and classic musical influences to
create a vibrant new sound and style. In
addition to leading the Arun Luthra Quartet in tours of the U.S., the U.K.,
Australia, and Japan, Luthra has also performed and recorded with Billy Harper,
Kenny Garrett, Eddie Henderson, Charli Persip, Cecil Bridgeater, Bernard
Purdie, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Bobby Short, Frankie Valli, and many
