Biber: Battaglia à 10 in D major, C.61 Pärt: Fratres Golijov: Last Round Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings in C Major, Op. 48 The New York Times describes the self-conducted orchestra as “brimming with personality or, better, personalities, many and varied.” Founded in 2007 by 17 young professional musicians, A Far Cry has developed an innovative structure of rotating leadership both on stage and behind the scenes and experiments with the way music is performed and experienced. A Far Cry has given more than two hundred performances around the world, produced three albums, and has an extensive Internet following. A European debut tour is planned for 2012.
A Far Cry maintains strong ties to Boston, its home base. Through an educational partnership with the New England Conservatory, members of A Far Cry work with local students, passing on the spirit of collaborative music to the next generation.
Founded in 1957, the Schneider Concerts chamber music series is praised as being “one of the best deals in town for lovers of classical music” by the New York Times. The series has presented many of the world’s chamber music notables before their rise to fame: Peter Serkin, the Guarneri String Quartet, and Tashi made their New York debuts in Schneider Concerts, and Yefim Bronfman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Murray Perahia performed in the series early in their careers.
