Charlie Parker Ensemble

The repertoire of Charlie Parker is learned and studied. Specific tunes and original arrangements are learned, practiced, and recorded, including the music of some of Parker’s contemporaries, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, and Tadd Dameron. The language of the bebop musicians is studied through listening, emulation, and implementation. Repertoire includes such works as “Groovin’ High,” “Blue and Boogie,” “Salt Peanuts,” “Dizzy Atmosphere,” “Shaw Nuff,” “’Round Midnight,” “Donna Lee,” “Confirmation,” “Hot House,” “Eb-Pob,” “The Squirrel,” “One Base Hit,” and “Two Base Hit.” Final enrollment is at the discretion of the instructor. 2 credits (Spring only)
