International Students

International Students

In addition to the regular admission materials, international students must submit several other forms where applicable.

TOEFL

If English is not your primary language, you are required to submit an official TOEFL score. The test score should be sent directly from ETS. Please take note that any scores sent via email will not be accepted; our institution code is 2572. A minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test, 550 on the written test, or 213 on the computer-based test is required for admission. If you reside in Great Britain and English is not your primary language, we will accept the IELTS in place of a TOEFL score.

Transcripts

All applicants with international transcripts are required to submit an original transcript from each institution attended outside the United States, along with a certified English language translation. Please note that any transcripts sent by email will not be accepted. Applicants who would like to transfer academic credits earned at non-U.S. institutions are also required to have their transcript(s) evaluated by World Education Services (WES), our preferred provider, or by another member of the National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES). A course-by-course evaluation report must be prepared for each transcript. Please start the evaluation process as early as possible, including the submission of all required documents to WES (or another provider), to ensure the timely completion of the evaluation report. Instruct the provider to send the report to:

The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music
Office of Admission
72 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY 10011

If you request your report online, search for "New School Jazz" when selecting our institution. If your provider is unable to send the evaluation report directly to the school, please obtain the report and send it to The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music along with a Materials Cover Sheet.
