International Students

Applicants who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States must provide certain documents in addition to the regular application materials. If a document cannot be sent directly to The New School from the source, you must obtain an official copy and mail it to Office of Admission with an Application Materials Cover Sheet (PDF). Documents attached to email or sent as messages from a mobile device will not be accepted.

Proof of English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must submit valid TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores.

BFA Program

BA/BFA Dual Degree Program

Arrange for the testing service to send your test scores directly to The New School using the institution codes. We accept scores taken within the past two years. If your scores are older, you must retake the test. For more information, visit the TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE websites.

The TOEFL/IELTS/PTE requirement may be waived for applicants who have earned a 4-year degree from a U.S. College or University, or for citizens of the following countries whose native language is also English: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, or Common Wealth Caribbean (Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago).

Accepted Students

International students who need the I-20 or DS-2019 form to apply for a visa will receive a link to the online International Student Application Packet in their acceptance letters. They also can find the link via the Accepted Student tab in MyNewSchool. The packet includes information completing about the I-20 or DS-2019, guidelines for providing financial documents, instructions and procedures for F-1 students transferring from other colleges and universities, and other important forms and information.
