Dormitories Internet Connection

Overview

The New School provides high-speed, 24 hour Internet connections to dormitory rooms in various locations. Additionally, wireless Internet connectivity is provided in many dorm lounge spaces.

Location

Wired Internet connections are available to all dormitory rooms in the residence halls. Wireless Internet connections are available as listed in the Wireless Locations page.

Getting Started

To use the dormitory network, your personal computer should be properly configured.

  • Both Windows PCs and Macs must be configured to allow automatic downloads of operating system updates.
  • Both Windows PCs and Macs are required to run an anti-virus program with updated anti-virus definitions. The New School offers the latest version of Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition as a free download.
  • To connect to the wired Internet connection in your dormitory room, use a network cable and connect it to your computer and the supplied network receptacle in your room.
  • To connect to the wireless “newschoolnet” connection in the lounge space, launch a web browser and you will be redirected to the "newschoolnet" login page. Enter your NetID username and password and you will be able to use the network.
