Blackboard is the New School's digital classroom. Blackboard provides secure, private spaces for course content, class interaction in discussion boards, blogs and wikis, posting and submitting assignments, virtual chat, emailing instructors and class members, and more.
Degree or Credit-Seeking Students
ALL STUDENTS: Your classes will appear in your My Courses list on the first day of the semester, and remain available until 60 days after the last day the class meets.
CONTINUING EDUCATION STUDENTS are issued a New School NetID and password to access Blackboard and MyNewSchool, but CE students do not receive a New School email account.
FACULTY: Blackboard classes will appear in your My Courses list about two weeks before the first day of the semester. Your classes will remain in your My Courses list for two years after the end of the semester. Classes are then archived by Academic Technology, and are available upon request to New School Online.
STUDENTS AND FACULTY: Instructors may use Blackboard to post assignments, announcements, readings, and content such as lectures, video, etc., as well as for discussions, blogs and wikis, grading, and more.
You may use Blackboard with Macintosh and Windows computers. A mobile app is also available for Apple mobile devices and some Android phones.
In classes with rich media components such as video and large sound files, you will need access to a broadband Internet connection (cable or DSL, for most users). Individual classes may require additional software. Your instructor will let you know about any special software requirements early in the semester.
Student and faculty support for technical and user issues, training requests, and general inquiry pertaining to Blackboard is available during business hours by calling New School Online at 212.229.8947 x4463, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
