India and China share many interests and face many similar challenges, and the United States is increasingly engaged with both countries on many levels. The India China Institute (ICI) fosters collaborative research and institutional and personal connections among these three countries. ICI scholars analyze political and social issues and trends in India, China and the United States with the goal of encouraging leaders, managers, opinion-builders, and academics in all three countries to work constructively together to promote social and economic progress, address mutual problems, and identify areas for future cooperation. Based in New York City at The New School, ICI, in nurturing this three-way conversation, is emerging as the hub of an international network of institutions and activities that is deepening our understanding of global processes.
The New School, founded 1919, is a private university in New York's Greenwich Village. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts and social sciences, design, and the performing arts. The India China Institute provides a lively environment for the circulation of new people and ideas at The New School, consistent with this institution's historic international outlook and historic mission of extending higher education to promote social progress.
An important aspect of ICI's work is to support and promote active scholarship on India and China at The New School. Faculty members in anthropology, economics, design, international affairs, and media studies integrated into ICI's current and future research agendas through the India China Fellowship program as well as individual collaborations in research initiatives and developing new courses. ICI also sponsors and cosponsors lectures and other public events every year at The New School and at partner institutions in Beijing and Mumbai.
