  • New Hires and Status Changes

New full-time faculty members, full-time and regular part-time administrative staff members, and current employees who have become eligible to participate in our benefit plans will receive an invitation via their New School email account to attend an upcoming benefits orientation. Please view the information found in the Full-Time Faculty and Full-Time and Regular Part-Time Administrative Staff section of this site for detailed information about the benefit plans available.

    New Employees

New employees become eligible for most benefits on the first of the month following one full month of employment. You must complete and submit your benefits enrollment package (PDF) within 31 days of your benefits-effective date.

    Note

If you do not enroll in the Health Care or Dental Care insurance plans or set up a Flexible Spending Account within 31 days of your benefits-effective date, you cannot be enrolled in these plans for the current calendar year, and your next opportunity to enroll will be during the fall Open Enrollment period or coverage effective on January 1 of the following year.

    Change in Employment Status

If you become eligible for benefits because of a change in employment status, most benefits become effective the first of the month coincident with or following the date of the change. You must complete and submit your benefits enrollment forms within 31 days of your benefits-effective date. (Note: If you do not enroll in the Health Care or Dental Care insurance plan or in the Flexible Spending Account Plan within 31 days of your benefits-effective date, you cannot be enrolled in these plans for the current calendar year, and your next opportunity to enroll will be during the fall Open Enrollment period for coverage effective on January 1 of the following year.)
