Academic Federal Credit Union: The Academic Federal Credit Union (AFCU), chartered in 1979, is a nonprofit financial institution that provides the same services as a bank except that profits earned are provided to credit union members in the form of higher dividends on savings accounts and lower interest rates on loan products and credit cards. Once you become a member you enjoy member benefits for life.  Your immediate family members are also eligible for membership. 

Services and products offered include savings accounts, money market accounts, term share (CD) accounts, share draft (checking) accounts with no minimum balance or monthly charge, debit cards/free ATM access at the Allpoint ATM network (the largest in the country), online/mobile banking, electronic bill pay, loans with competitive rates (auto, installment, mortgage, home equity line of credit), VISA credit cards with no annual fee and low annual percentage rates (APR), and much more.

To join you'll need to provide a copy of a photo ID, a copy of your employee ID card, and a completed signature card.
