H1N1 Announcements

 
The New School is now providing free H1N1 vaccines to all students. Students should schedule their vaccinations by calling Student Health Services at (212) 229-1671, option 2 for Medical Services. Faculty and staff should contact their primary care provider to discuss whether they should receive the H1N1 vaccination.

You can now get your Seasonal Flu Vaccine at The New School. A fee of $15 will be billed to your student account. In addition to getting your shot, you may win a free getaway weekend just for taking care of yourself. At no extra charge, you can enter a sweepstake when you arrive for your flu shot and be eligible for these prizes; the grand prize is a health spa and resort getaway for two; ten first prizes of Apple Ipod Shuffles, and 100 second prizes of $10 gift cards. • Wednesday, October 21, 5:00-8:00 p.m., Stuyvesant Park: 318 East 15th Street (SC Lounge)
  

• Thursday, October 22, 4:00-8:00 p.m., 55 West 13th Street (2nd Floor Theresa Lang Center)
  

• Saturday, November 7, 12:00-3:00 p.m., Loeb: 135 East 12th Street (Ground Floor- Medical Services)
  

• Tuesday November 10, 5:00-8:00 p.m., William Street: 84 William Street (Room 2D- RHD’s Office)
  

There are very few reported cases of H1N1 in The New School community. You can take preventative action by getting your flu shot right now. It’s that simple.

Seasonal Flu Vaccines are available in your neighborhood. Please visit https://a816-healthpsi.nyc.gov/FluPublic/searchByBoro.do , and put in your zip code to find the nearest site where seasonal vaccines are available.

H1N1 Flu Vaccines have started to arrive at Student Health Services in small quantities. The currently available vaccine is the intra-nasal version, which is not recommended for individuals with allergies to eggs or pre-existing medical conditions (i.e. pregnant women, adults with chronic medical conditions such as asthma or diabetes, or individuals with immunosuppression). At this time Student Health Services is offering free H1N1 vaccine for students without pre-existing medical conditions as described above, and are 24 years of age or younger. Students: You should take the following steps to take care of yourself and prevent the spread of illness to others. If you seek medical advice contact Student Health Services at 212.229.1671.

Faculty members: You must contact your department chairs or directors as per your departmental protocol as well as your students using GroupWise email or Blackboard.

Employees: You must complete and submit an Employee Notice of Suspected H1N1 notification found on

All employees must contact the Human Resources Department at 212-229-5671 x4942, if you are unable to return to work after five days.

The New School will hold its annual Seasonal Flu Shot Program for faculty and staff on Tuesday, October 20, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Office of Human Resources, 79 Fifth Avenue, 18th Floor. The charge is $10.00. Payment is due when you receive the seasonal flu shot and may be made in cash, or by check or money order made payable to The New School.

The university has contracted once again with Affiliated Physicians to administer the program. Appointments must be scheduled directly on their website at: www.apfluwatch.com/schedule/login.php?21 . Once on the website, you will be asked to enter a company name. Enter: thenewschool. You will then be asked to enter a password. Enter: welcome. Your registration will only be processed if you complete all the steps. At the end, you will see a confirmation of your registration. Please print the notice and bring it with you when you come for your flu shot.

The New School will not be offering the H1N1 vaccine to staff and faculty. To find out where you can receive the H1N1 flu shot, please visit www.flu.gov/ , the website maintained by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. On the right side, you will see a box with the header "Flu Shot Locator." Please click on the hyperlink in that box to find the nearest location.
