Ongoing Initiatives
To manage waste and improve resource efficiency, the university:- launched a successful recycling program for metal, plastic, glass, paper, and cardboard.
- developed a pilot composting program in cafeteria kitchens.
- replaced rented water coolers with owned coolers and bottle fillers.
- recycles 100 percent of e-waste, including computers, appliances, mobile phones, and audio-visual equipment.
- substitutes cardboard boxes with reusable plastic crates.
- prints 90 percent of marketing and collateral materials on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) paper with FSC-certified venders.
- Utilizes office paper containing 30 percent post-consumer content.
- Offers biodegradable cutlery and plates in New School cafeterias.
Future Goals
The university will:- augment purchase of local and organic food for cafeterias.
- continue to reduce the number of delivery cycles of products throughout the university.
