Each year The New School hosts the LaGuardia Award Dinner and the Parsons Fashion Benefit, two gala events critical to fundraising for scholarships in support of our most talented students. In addition to our fundraising events, The New School hosts public programs that address a wide array of academic and artistic interests. Contact us for information on how to support or attend a public program.
The LaGuardia Award Dinner recognizes individuals who, through their contributions, exemplify the compassion, courage, and determination of New York City's legendary mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia. Proceeds from this annual event provide support for more than 130 academic scholarships at the university. Award recipients over the years have included real estate developer Douglas Durst, Barnes and Nobel founder and chairman Leonard Riggio, and President Bill Clinton. On February 25, 2010, we will honor Joan Ganz Cooney, co-founder & chairman of the exec. committee of Sesame Workshop.
Each year, the Parsons Fashion Benefit honors leaders of the fashion industry and celebrates the work of its graduating class of designers with a runway show. Proceeds from the event go towards scholarships for students enrolled at Parsons. Past honorees include Calvin Klein CEO Tom Murry, designer and activist Diane von Furstenberg, and Howard Socol, formerly of Barneys New York.
