Each year The New School hosts the LaGuardia Award Dinner and the Parsons Fashion Benefit, two gala events critical to fundraising for scholarships in support of our most talented students. In addition to hosting fundraising events, The New School offers public programs that address a wide array of academic and artistic interests. Contact us for information on how to support or attend public programs.
The LaGuardia Award Dinner recognizes individuals who, through their contributions, exemplify the compassion, courage, and determination of New York City's legendary mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia. Proceeds from this annual event provide support for more than 130 academic scholarships at the university. Award recipients over the years have included real estate developer Douglas Durst, Barnes and Noble founder and chairman Leonard Riggio, and President Bill Clinton. In 2011, The New School honored Jeffrey R. Immelt, chairman of General Electric Company.
Each year, the Parsons Fashion Benefit honors leaders of the fashion industry and celebrates the work of its graduating class of designers with a runway show. Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships for students enrolled at Parsons. Past honorees include designer and activist Diane von Furstenberg; Vera Wang; Howard Socol, formerly of Barneys New York; and Calvin Klein's Tom Murry and Francisco Costa. On May 9, 2011, Parsons was pleased to honor Reed Krakoff, president and executive creative director of Coach.
