Graduate Writing Center

Are you new to graduate work? Is English not your first language? The New School for Social Research (NSSR) offers academic writing services for NSSR graduate students, students in the Graduate Program for International Affairs, and Media Studies students.

The Graduate Writing Center offers 40-minute individual tutoring sessions in which students can discuss: grammar, style, structure, use of quotations and references, and other scholarly issues. We also run workshops on graduate writing, revising, using outlines, and other techniques that apply to dissertations, theses, articles, grant applications and class papers. The writing counselors are advanced NSSR Ph.D. students who can help not only with graduate level academic writing, but also provide advice about academic expectations and conventions. They are trained and supervised by an NSSR faculty member.

The Graduate Writing Center is located at 65 Fifth Ave., Room 376A.
