The quest for external funding is generally a time-consuming endeavor.
One of the most important things to remember is to start early
in the course of your graduate studies, as the application deadlines
for many worthwhile grants occur a year in advance of their
award, much like applying to graduate school. Starting well in advance
of the deadline can help you to better anticipate what you will
need for a successful application. Also, applications are often
completely reworked several times, so starting early will allow
for numerous revisions.
