M.A. Concentration in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling

CMHSAC Admissions

There are no separate requirements for admission to the CMHSAC program. All students who have been admitted to general M.A. study in the Psychology Department are also eligible to enroll in the CMHSAC. However, it is important understand that an application for admission to the CMHSAC program can be made only AFTER admission and enrollment in the general M.A.

Application for admission to the CMHSAC program requires the completion of a program enrollment form and the submission of the form to one of the Student Psychology Advisors. The application will be reviewed by one of the administrative faculty and a decision regarding admission will made in as timely a manner as possible. Students will be notified in writing of the admission decision. Blank enrollment forms can be obtained from the advisors’ office or from one of the co-directors of the program. There is also a blank form appended to the program manual (Appendix III).

Students are encouraged to enroll in the program by the start of the their second semester in the general M.A. Program. However, there is no deadline for enrolling, and students are free to take any number of the required courses before submitting a formal application. Nonetheless, students should be aware that they will not be permitted to apply for fieldwork placement at Beth Israel Hospital until they have enrolled in the program.
