The New School is located in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. Most of the campus is contained within a few blocks of the main buildings on 12th Street. The Alvin Johnson and Jacob M. Kaplan Buildings
The administrative offices of The New School for General Studies are located in the Johnson and Kaplan buildings at 66 West 12th Street. The Alvin Johnson Building, designed by Joseph Urban and built in 1930, is considered a major example of Urban's early work. It contains an auditorium, classrooms, lecture halls, seminar rooms, and university administration offices.
The Jacob M. Kaplan Building, built in 1956, contains classrooms, lecture halls, seminar rooms, and other accommodations. Its adjunct at 65 West 11th Street contains a cafeteria, a small auditorium, classrooms, and the offices of Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts.
The Albert List Academic Center
The Albert List Academic Center at 65 Fifth Avenue, between 13th and 14th Streets, houses the Office of the Registrar and Student Financial Services, as well as all teaching, research, and administrative activities of The New School for Social Research. The Fogelman Library and the Academic Computing Center are also there.
68 Fifth Avenue
A small building at 68 Fifth Avenue houses instructional computer labs and offices of the English Language Studies Center.
Arnhold Hall
A facility at 55 West 13th Street houses the University Computing Center, the Knowledge Union (a state-of-the-art film, video, and multimedia production facility), and a cafeteria. The offices and studios of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music are on the fifth floor, along with an intimate concert hall.
Parsons The New School for Design
Parsons is located at 66 Fifth Avenue and a connected building at 2 West 13th Street. This complex also houses the Department of Media Studies. Facilities include art studios, film studios, darkrooms, classrooms, a cafeteria, and an art gallery.
Fanton Hall
A building at 72 Fifth Avenue, on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 13th Street, houses the administrative and academic offices of Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy. The Center for New York City Affairs and the Health Policy Research Center are located there.
Other divisions and departments of The New School, including Mannes College The New School for Music, The New School for Drama, and the fashion department at Parsons, are located throughout Manhattan. |
