The New School for General Studies has been a leader in lifelong education since 1919. Every year, adults with a passion for knowledge take advantage of our master’s, bachelor’s, and certificate programs as well as the hundreds of courses offered through continuing education. And now, you can accommodate your busy schedule by taking many of those classes and degree programs online.

At The New School for General Studies, you can:

  • Complete your bachelor’s degree online or on campus
    Our bachelor’s program is designed for working adults and transfer students serious about finishing their undergraduate degree.
  • Earn your master’s degree
    The New School’s advanced degree programs prepare you for a successful career in the industry of your choice. You’ll learn from professionals at the top of their fields and benefit from the full resources of a major university. We offer the following degrees: MA in Media Studies, MFA in Creative Writing, MA/MS in International Affairs, and MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
  • Take a continuting education class
    Choose from more than 800 courses taught by university faculty that range from Screenwriting to Business Management to Modern Dance. Most are scheduled during the evening and many can be taken online.
  • Advance your career
    Certificate programs, such as Documentary Studies and Creative Arts Therapies, give you the training and background you need to reach the next level in your career—or even begin a new one.
