    Facilities Management

  • The New School Facilities Management is responsible for maintaining and operating the buildings on campus. Facilities Management is dedicated to excellent customer service in all aspects of its operations. We invite feedback and suggestions from all members of the university community that will help us make The New School campus beautiful, safe, and sustainable.

    Maintenance and Housekeeping

    Facilities Management operates an online work order system. Anyone with a New School e-mail address has access to submit work requests. 

    Work Order Guidelines

    • A tutorial for completing a work order can be found here.
    • Log in using your NetID@newschool.edu and password (do not use your e-mail alias).
    • First time user will be asked for additional information to register with the system.
    • Please be sure to complete all entries in the work order form.
    • Once you submit your work order you will receive an e-mail confirmation.
    • Academic work orders submitted between 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. on weekdays are generally reviewed and approved the same day. Work orders received after hours will be reviewed the following business day. Residence Hall work orders are monitored continuously. 

    Event Set-Ups

    • Please be sure to provide 72 hours advance notice when requesting room set-ups for a class or event. 
    • You must have a confirmed space reservation number BEFORE you can proceed with your facilities request. 
    • Under the "What - describe the work to be done" section, select "Room Reservation" from the drop down menu and fill in all the information requested. 
    • If your event requires special equipment, additional labor, or extends beyond normal building hours you will be asked to provide a FOAP before your event set-up is approved.

    IT/AV Requests

    IT/AV services cannot be requested using this form. All IT/AV requests should be submitted through the MyNewSchool web page using the Services tab.

    Environmental Health and Safety

    The New School's Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) office within Facilities Management is responsible for regulatory compliance for worker safety and environmental protection. Responsibilities include chemical safety, EPA-regulated wast management practices, ergonomic guidelines, and safety awareness campaigns. 

    Sustainability

    The New School is committed to sustainability in all aspects of building operations, especially reduction of water and energy consumption and increased efforts in recycling and composting solid waste. We are actualizing the university’s ongoing promise to reduce its carbon footprint. We played a key role in The New School’s successful participation in the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment and the (NYC) Mayor’s Challenge to Universities.
