Steve Nelson is a unique Jazz guitarist. Since moving to New York in 2010 he has had the opportunity to play around New York through the gig office and through his own gigs. He has played smaller Jazz Clubs such as Somethin’ Jazz, Tomi Jazz and Chris’s jazz club, as well as taken part in festivals like Central Park’s Jazz and Colors Festival. Steve has also played a lot of private events and wedding gigs. Steve is currently in his last year at the New School for Jazz. Through school he has had the privilege with studying with greats such as, Peter Bernstein, Juian Lage, Steve Cardenas, Andrew Cyrille, Reggie Workman, Vic Juris and many others. In high school Steve was a part of the All Southern California Jazz Band which got to perform at Disneyland. After high school Steve moved to Montana where he found solace in the nature. After a year off of dedicated practicing, he then attended the Cornish College of Arts in Seattle. He was awarded the Nellie Scholarship which is a merit scholarship given to few students. After playing around Seattle, Steve realized his future lay in New York. He has been working in New York ever since. Steve currently leads a Trio that plays weekly and performs original music. Steve hopes to keep playing with this band as well as pursing as many other opportunity as possible.
