It Was Rape: A Film Screening

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Rape is wrong, illegal, reprehensible—but still tragically common. In this film, It Was Rape, eight women recount their experience with sexual assault—from a Midwestern teenager trying alcohol for the first time to a Native American woman gradually coming to terms with her abusive childhood.

The result is an opportunity to empathize with people—not just absorb statistics—and, perhaps, to puncture some of the silence and denial that allows sexual assault to thrive. Q and A with director (and former Lang professor) Jennifer Baumgardner after the screening.

Student Health Services will be present with information on The New School's Sexual Assault Policy and their prevention campaign, Yes Means Yes.

This event is presented by the Gender Studies Department and co-sponsored by: The First Year Writing Department, Student Health Services, and the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Justice at Lang.
