Fiction Forum: Sohrab Homi Fracis and M.G. Vassanji

M.G. Vassanji has published six novels, most recently The Magic of Saida, two collections of short stories, a memoir of his travels in India, and a biography of Mordecai Richler. His work has appeared in various countries and several languages. Vassanji has received the Giller Prize for best work of fiction, the Commonwealth Regional Prize (Africa), and the Governor-General's Prize for nonfiction. His work has been shortlisted for the Rogers Prize, the Governor-General's Prize in Canada for fiction, as well as the Crossword Prize in India. He is a member of the Order of Canada and has been awarded several honorary doctorates.

Sohrab Homi Fracis is the first Asian author to win the Iowa Short Fiction Award, juried by the Iowa Writers Workshop, for his book Ticket to Minto: Stories of India and America. He now has a novel in the works. His stories and novel excerpts have appeared or will appear in Slice Magazine, Other Voices, The Antigonish Review, Weber Studies, The Toronto Review, India CurrentsState Street Review, Ort der Augen, Writecorner Press, and South Asian Review. He taught literature and creative writing at the University of North Florida, was fiction and poetry editor at State Street Review and was visiting writer in residence at Augsburg College. He has been a Florida Individual Artist Fellow in Fiction, a Walter E. Dakin Fellow in Fiction and an artist in residence at Seaside Institute and the art colony of Yaddo.
