Award-winning
filmmaker Osman Okkan has woven together portraits of six influential Turkish
authors—Asli Erdogan, Nazim Hikmet, Yasar Kemal, Murathan Mungan, Orhan Pamuk,
and Elif Safak—into a set of compelling short films entitled Human Landscapes: Portraits of Six
Turkish Authors.
Each film explores the work of one of the writers in the context of modern
Turkey’s shifting political landscape, raising questions about literary and
political developments, human rights, minority rights, religious freedom, and
freedom of speech. A screening of Human Landscapes is followed by
commentary and a panel discussion. Presented by the School of Media
Studies.
